Irving Penn, who died in 2009, was an iconic photographer. He was known for mixing his experience with art into his photograph, which made him very unique. Since Penn photographed for Vogue, he did a lot of fashion photography. However, Penn was known for his photographs not being so much about the fashion, but about the subject. Other than photographing people, Penn was skilled in the art of still life photography. He would take old trash and arrange it to take pictures of in front of a blank background. Similarly, Penn also photographed his live subjects in front of blank backgrounds. This left more focus for the subjects and the fashion. All in all, Penn is known for his unique blend of art and photography, which is very evident in the picture I replied to.
